Posted By: Mingus Comments: I would, but I just don't remember dissing Canuck writers. In general, I think there's lots of great Canadian novelists. Where was it? I may have been drunk. Date Posted: 2005-04-19

If not - allow me to say - congratulations on finding my website. However, no one made you read the essay (which, spelled properly, is TOP TEN REASONS WHY IT'S STUPID TO BELIEVE IN GOD). And if you think it is not an original topic to write about, why did you respond? Nobody's touched on it here for years. It's an old essay.
In any case, trying to discuss religion with someone who doesn't understand rational thought is pointless. 'Faith' in modern science, IS mutually exclusive to spiritual faith. Evolution, natural selection, universal physics and genetics don't leave room for god or the supernatural. Your understanding of the scientific process is obviously limited, or you wouldn't use the weakest argument possible, concerning "The progression of science over the last, say, 400 years or so, shows quite clearly the tradition of fallibility and dubiousness in each successive generation's scientific assumptions of the universe."
Does that mean that all science is useless because it maybe discounted at some time in the future? As science progresses, we come to understand our theories in more depth. And the big laws don't change - thermodynamics, gravity, and evolution. Darwin's argument hasn't changed much since 1867 - we've simply filled in the holes, with chromosomes, genetic inheritance and the double helix.
You're right, though. I'm tired of debating religion. Like smashing one's head against an anvil. Date Posted: 2005-03-23
